Östermalm is best known for high-end shops, fine-dining restaurants, and nightclubs, all fun activities for special occasions, but if you’re looking to spend the day in this Stockholm neighborhood on a budget, here are a few suggestions that are also fun.

Brunch

Mr. Cake in Stockholm

The concept of Mr. Cake, located at Rådmansgatan 12, is American bakery meets Swedish fika.  They serve colorful cakes, a variety of Swedish and American pastries, pancakes, sandwiches, and salads.  Mr. Cake opens 8:00 am on weekdays and 9:00 am on weekends, and some dishes are only available in the morning while others are only available in the afternoon, so check their website for details on that.  Cakes and pastries are available all day long, and this is also a good place for dessert or fika whenever it suits your schedule!

Craft Beer

Mikkeller is a Danish brewery, but they have several bars in Sweden and in other countries around the world, including Mikkeller Bar Stockholm located at Brahegatan 3-5.  About half a story below street level, hanging out at Mikkeller Bar feels like entering a cozy craft beer cave in colder weather.  In warmer weather, their outdoor seating is a good choice for people-watching while enjoying a beer.  They open at 3:00 pm Sunday through Thursday and at noon on Friday and Saturday.  They serve some interesting bar snacks and other smaller dishes, and there are plenty of Mikkeller beers on tap and in cans and bottles, plus other craft beers from around the world including Sweden.  Sometimes there are tap takeovers featuring local breweries.

Ice Cream (and maybe more craft beer)

Omnipollo has a brewery in Sundbyberg and a bar/pizza place in Södermalm, but did you know that they also have an outdoor beer garden/ice cream place in Östermalm?  Omnipollos Flora is in Humlegården park and only open in the spring and summer.  In those seasons, they open at noon every day, weather permitting.  They have burgers including vegetarian and vegan options, homemade soft-serve ice cream in creative colors and flavors, and of course a selection of Omnipollo beers on tap.
